Yandex Metrica is the web analytics service of Yandex, similar to Google Analytics. This page is about its goals.
What goals are for
Goals answer two questions: which traffic source works best and which groups of visitors are the most loyal. Goals are also used to choose audiences for ads in Yandex Direct and for display advertising. Visits that arrive with UTM tags show which campaign brought the visitor.
Terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Goal | An action of a visitor that the owner of the site wants |
| Goal completion | The condition of the goal was met |
| Target visit | A visit in which the goal was completed |
| Conversion | Target visits divided by all visits |
Goals and visits
A goal can be completed several times in one visit, so there can be more completions than target visits, or as many. Example: 3 visitors came to the site, and 1 of them completed the goal 5 times. That is 1 target visit with 5 completions, and a conversion of 1 in 3.
Metrica divides goals into conversion goals and retargeting goals, and a tag (counter) can have up to 200 of them. A goal is set, for example, as a number of viewed pages that counts as a successful visit, or as one or more URLs whose visit is the wanted action.
Typical goals
- A visit to a certain page, for example the order confirmation.
- A sequence of steps, the order funnel.
- A click on a button.
- A number of viewed pages.
- A sent form.
- A click on an external link, a file download or a click on an email address.
