Resolving Issues with OpenCode
Introduction
This article is about resolving issues you can meet while working with OpenCode
Global regions
Error: Upstream request failed: This Go model requires Global regions. Select Global in your workspace's Privacy settings to use it.
That error comes from OpenCode, not from anything in the repo. In my case it happened when I subscribed to OpenCode Go and picked opencode-go/deepseek-v4.1-flash.
That's DeepSeek through your OpenCode Go subscription, and the repo doesn't set it: the roles and opencode.jsonc only use opencode/... ids.
The pick is saved in ~/.local/state/opencode/model.json. Your OpenCode workspace is set to a narrower region than Global, and that Go model is only served under the Global setting.
You can fix it either way:
- - Keep the Go model: on opencode.ai, open your workspace's Privacy settings and select Global, as the error says. Requests may then be processed outside your current region, so check you're fine with that for this repo.
- - Keep your region: pick another model in the TUI with /models:
- - opencode/deepseek-v4.1-flash-free, the free model the repo already uses
- - openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash, which you've also used before
I decided to continue with the Go model.
Here's how to do it, based on the OpenCode Go docs section "Enable restricted models":
1. Go to
https://opencode.ai/console
and sign in with the account that has your Go subscription.
2. If you have more than one workspace, pick the one your API key belongs to.
3. Open Settings → Privacy.
4. Under Regions, change the default Europe & United States to Global and save.
Only an owner or admin of the workspace can change this. If the Privacy page is read-only for you, ask the workspace owner to change it.
Then go back to OpenCode and resend your message. The docs don't say whether the CLI needs a restart, I did it just in case.
/restart
If you still get the same error, quit OpenCode and start it again with container/tools/ai/opencode.sh.
There's one more thing to know. The docs say DeepSeek V4.1 Flash doesn't keep your requests, under an agreement that is "renewed monthly". The current one I got was "valid through October 31, 2026", which was the next day. Check that page again after that date if you're keeping DeepSeek through Go.
